Gold prices rose by more than Rs 1,500 on Monday to a record Rs 71,100/10gm, breaking the Rs 70,000 mark for the first time, owing to increased geopolitical threats and active buying by central banks. Silver, too, joined the party, crossing the Rs 80,000/kg mark for the first time, with prices rising by Rs 2,000 to Rs 81,200/kg.
