PM to host virtual meeting of 'coalition of the willing' - and demand 'concrete commitments' from allies
Friday, 14 March 2025 Sir Keir Starmer will host a virtual meeting of world leaders to discuss peacekeeping in Ukraine, and he will use the call to say that now is the time for "concrete commitments", Downing Street has said.

Speaking on Monday, the Conservative party leader said: "I'm glad the government has finally done this but what took them so long? I asked Keir Starmer six times at the despatch box at PMQ's why he was doing this and that he needed to reverse it."

Germany is ramping up civil defense efforts like never before, with officials warning the country must be "ready for war" by 2029. From underground garages and metro tunnels turning into bunkers to emergency siren upgrades and wartime hospital prep, Berlin is preparing for the unthinkable—a direct confrontation with Russia. Civil defense chief Ralph Tiesler has called for at least €10 billion by the end of the decade, as military spending soars and public fear rises.
