A horrifying flash flood has devastated Kerr County in south-central Texas, killing 24 people and leaving 20 girls missing from a Christian summer camp. President Donald Trump reacted to the tragedy, calling the incident “terrible” and “shocking.” Search and rescue teams are racing against time, using boats and helicopters to save lives.
237 people have been rescued, including 167 by helicopter, but the search continues, especially around Camp Mystic, where the missing girls were last seen. Eyewitnesses, including 13-year-old Elinor Lester, described the terrifying moment helicopters swooped in as floodwaters rose to 29.5 feet, destroying everything. A river gauge in Hunt malfunctioned under the massive surge. The Guadalupe River turned into a death trap after days of relentless rain. Authorities warn the toll could rise as operations continue through the night.
