BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi on December 28 said that CM Nitish Kumar agreed to become Chief Minister of Bihar on request of Janata Dal (United), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) leaders. He said, "Nitish Kumar didn't want to be the Chief Minister (of Bihar). BJP and JDU leaders told him that we fought the poll on his name and vision and said that people had voted for him. In the end, he accepted to become the Chief Minister on request of JDU, BJP and VIP leaders." On JD (U) MLAs joining BJP in Arunachal Pradesh, Sushil Modi said, "Leaders of JD (U) have said that whatever has happened in Arunachal Pradesh will not affect the alliance in Bihar and Bihar government. BJP-JD(U) alliance in Bihar is unbreakable. The government will work for 5 years under the guidance of Nitish Kumar."
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former Bihar deputy chief minister Sushil Modi filed his nomination for Rajya Sabha by-election as an NDA (National Democratic Alliance) candidate in Patna on December 02. He was accompanied by Bihar CM Nitish Kumar. He said, "Sushil Modi has our full support." Voting for Rajya Sabha by-election is scheduled on December 14. The seat was left vacant after demise of Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) leader and former union minister Ram Vilas Paswan.
International karate champion Syeda Falak has decided to serve the people through politics. Falak has joined the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) party. Syeda has been into social activities for the last two years and by raising her voice against injustice. "I have been into social activities since two years, raising my voice against the injustices done across India. I can see how the situation of the country is now. It is time for a change in Indian Politics. Minorities be it Muslims, Dalits, Adivasis and other marginalised communities, they should not be slaves to so called secular parties. They should have their own voice. I want to serve the people and work for the society hence, I decided to join politics," she said. Talking about her past life and achievements, Syeda said, "I started learning Karate at the age of 12. Now it's been 13 to 14 years for my Karate career. I have represented India at many International championships, a winner of 20 National level Karate championships and 22 International level Karate championships and first from Telangana to qualify for World and Asian Karate Championships as well as first from Telangana to win the senior National title. I have also represented India at many world Karate Premium Leagues."
RJD's Tejashwi Yadav on January 16 targeted Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar over IndiGo manager's murder in Patna. He also said the state is becoming the crime capital of India. "Bihar is becoming the crime capital of the country, the number of incidents of crime is increasing here. It was ridiculous to see the CM yesterday, Nitish Kumar seemed helpless, very weak and a tired CM," said Tejashwi Yadav. He added, "When Rupesh Singh (IndiGo manager) was murdered, CM released a press release that culprits be arrested. Who is he making an appeal to? He has been CM for 16 consecutive years and also has Home Department in his portfolio. Who is he making an appeal to? Opposition?"
Three days after Rupesh Kumar Singh, a manager with IndiGo airlines, was shot dead by unidentified bike-borne men in the Punaichak area of Patna, his family said the probe should be transferred from Bihar police to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Nandeshwar Singh, brother of the deceased said that despite Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's assurance of arresting the culprits within 48 hours, there have been no arrests.
On murder of an IndiGo manager in Patna and crime in the state, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said, "I spoke with DGP, a special team has been formed. Don't demoralise police, if someone doesn't carry out their duty, action is taken. What used to happen before 2005? There was a lot of crime. Is it the same today?" He further said, "Bihar ranks at 23 in the country as far as incidents of crime are concerned. Law is in place. Police are finding out more information. A speedy trial will be done, so that stringent action is taken against the culprit on time. I have been assured by the DGP." On evening of Jan 12, IndiGo manager Rupesh Kumar Singh was murdered in Patna. The incident brought the law and order situation of Bihar in question once again.

The Congress proposed that the TMC should merge with it instead to put up a united fight against the BJP. The BJP, which has emerged as a potent force in the state, said the TMC's suggestion amounted to admission that it was not in a position to take on the saffron party on its own in the assembly polls in West Bengal due in April-May. "If the Left Front and the Congress are genuinely anti-BJP, they should rally behind Mamata Banerjee in her fight against the communal and divisive politics of the saffron party," senior TMC MP Sougata Roy said. Reacting to the TMC's proposal, state Congress chief Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury blamed the West Bengal's ruling party for the growth of the BJP in the state. "We are not interested in aligning with the TMC. Why is the TMC now interested in an alliance with us after poaching our MLAs over the last 10 years. If Mamata Banerjee is in keen on fighting the BJP, then she should join the Congress as it is the only pan-India platform to fight against communalism," he said. On Jan 15, President Ram Nath Kovind made the first contribution towards the construction of Ram Mandir, which is to be built in UP's Ayodhya. Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) working president, Alok Kumar said, "He is the first citizen of the country so we went to him to initiate this drive. He donated a sum of Rs 5,01,000." Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan also made the contribution for construction of Ram Mandir. He handed over a cheque of Rs 1 lakh to a leader of Vishva Hindu Parishad. He said, "I am grateful to be part of such mission." Ram Mandir is to be built at the site of Ram Janmabhoomi in UP's Ayodhya.
The Congress workers in Bhopal launched a campaign to collect funds for the construction of Ram temple in Ayodhya. Party workers distributed pamphlets and asked individual to contribute directly to bank account of the temple trust. Government of India setup an independent trust named 'Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra' for the construction of Ram Temple. Congress leader PC Sharma said, "We urge people to send contributions directly to bank account of the temple trust and not give it to any individual."
An old age home in Ayodhya, which is house of 45 women, is facing lack of helpers due to less funding. Women from different parts of the country, facing numerous kinds of family issue reside here. Every woman has a story and suffering of its own. At the old age home, women are provided with food and medicines. They keep themselves busy through various activities including singing. Their happiness after living in the old age home is clearly evident. With only 3 caretakers, the old age home is facing lack of helpers as the funding is very poor. They urged the government for not increasing their budget to run the shelter but to also increase the deposited amount in the bank accounts of these old women.
A 11-foot long python weighing around 25 kg was rescued by the Forest Department with the help of JCB in Uttar Pradesh's Aligarh on January 15. Scores of people witnessed the rescue operation. The python was later released into the wilderness.
A massive fire broke out at cloth showroom in Uttar Pradesh's Amroha on Jan 15. Locals are on a war footing to douse the flames. No injuries have been reported yet. Reason behind the fire is yet to be ascertained. More details are awaited.
