Farmers plan major road blockade to mark 100th day of protests
Friday, 5 March 2021 Farmers who have been protesting against the new farm laws plan to block a Western Peripheral Expressway outside New Delhi on Saturday, the 100th day of their campaign. Farmers from Punjab, Haryana and UP plan to stop all traffic on the six-lane expressway for up to five hours, said the union leaders said on Friday, who want the new farm laws to be repealed.
Farmer leader Rakesh Tikait took a jibe at the central government while announcing plans to meet cultivators in the state of West Bengal. On the occasion of International Women's Day on March 08, women protesters will be brought to the front at all the protest sites. From March 05, 'MSP Dilao' movement will be started in Karnataka, asking Prime Minister Modi to ensure MSP for crops."
Gasping for air, two men wearing oxygen masks share a bed in a government hospital in India's capital New Delhi, victims of the country's growing COVID-19 crisis. At Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital (LNJP), one of India's largest COVID-only facilities with more than 1,500 beds, a stream of ambulances ferried patients to the overflowing casualty ward on Thursday. "We are definitely over-burdened. We are already working at full capacity," said the hospital's medical director, Suresh Kumar. External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar met Jean-Yves Le Drian, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of France in New Delhi on April 13. Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij said that the government has to implement Covid-19 protocols strictly even if it irks people. He added that they cannot afford to see piles of bodies. “There are two ways to contain Covid, one of them is lockdown and it is not viable. We want the lives to go on and people to be safe at the same time. The other way to check the spread is strictness in following Covid-19 protocols. I have asked officers to implement Covid rules strictly even if it irks people. We can face people's anger but we cannot see piles of bodies.,” he said. Vij added India's recovery rate is way more than other countries and fatality rate is less. As per the Health Ministry, Haryana has over 27420 active cases while death toll is 3,316.

Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij has termed lockdown and stringent enforcement of guidelines as the two solutions to curb the spread of COVID-19. Vij, however, said the state government doesn't want to adopt the lockdown method, and thus want the restrictions imposed in the state to be enforced strictly. The Health Minister said the government is ready to face the dissatisfaction of the people over stringent actions, but cannot see heap of dead bodies due to COVID-19.
