On the rocks: Vandalism, neglect ruin art depicting prehistoric life

On a recent visit to a hillock at Kumittipathi in Coimbatore, former epigraphist R Jegadeesan and his team were shocked to find the rock art site in ruins. βThe drawings were disfigured by overwriting and scribbling. Some had written their names and dates of birth on the drawings as though they were making memories. But they did not know they were ruining something invaluable,β said Jegadeesan.
