Beware of fake cops calling you to extort money, say real cops

There has been an increase in cases of fake calls from individuals impersonating police officers in Goa, India. The fraudsters use the profile pictures of senior IPS officers on WhatsApp to intimidate victims into believing they are involved in criminal cases. They then pressure the victims to deposit money to avoid arrest, and by the time the victims realize they have been scammed, the money has already been taken. Police have urged the public to be vigilant and report such incidents immediately. Cybercrimes, including impersonation and extortion, are on the rise in the state.
