Setback for Karnataka: SC refuses to interfere with Cauvery order

IndiaTimes Friday, 22 September 2023
The Supreme Court has refused to interfere with the order of the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) directing Karnataka to release 5,000 cusecs of water per day to Tamil Nadu until September 27. The Karnataka government is holding consultations with legal experts to decide whether to comply with the order or seek a reduction in the volume of water to be released. Protests have started in the Cauvery basin districts, with farmers' organizations and pro-Kannada groups urging the state not to release water to Tamil Nadu.
