Karnataka has declared dementia a public health priority and has launched the Final Draft Karnataka Action Plan for Dementia. The plan proposes a dementia registry and home-based caregiver assistance. Dr. Pratima Murthy, director and senior professor of psychiatry at Nimhans, suggests screening all people above 60 for dementia and implementing a common screening for mental, neurological, and substance use disorders. The plan also emphasizes the need for an inclusive dementia support policy and training ASHA workers to identify dementia. Early diagnosis and interventions are crucial, as currently only 5% of people with dementia are identified in Karnataka.
