Drunk helper behind train's'tipsy' act at Mathura stn

An internal report on the Shakurbasti-Mathura MEMU accident at Mathura Junction has found that a drunk helper had caused the accident by keeping his bag on the throttle of the engine, causing sudden acceleration and crashing into the platform. The report stated that the helper, Sachin, had been sent to get the key for the driving trailer coach cab and was intoxicated and distracted by his mobile phone. Five staff members involved in train operations and maintenance, including Sachin, have been suspended. A detailed investigation is underway.
