39% govt schools in Gujarat don't have a single Class I student this year

IndiaTimes Friday, 6 October 2023
A total of 232 government-run schools in Ahmedabad city, and 12,336 schools statewide in Gujarat, do not have any students in Class I this year. This is due to a change in admission rules requiring children to be six years old by June 1. As a temporary solution, the state government has introduced 'Bal Vatika' between KG 2 and Class I. Approximately 7.5 lakh students have been admitted to Bal Vatika this year. Experts predict a significant decrease in the number of Class 10 and 12 students in the future as a result of this change.
