Pocso charge leads to 'automatic criminalisation': High court

IndiaTimes Thursday, 19 October 2023
The Calcutta High Court has stated that charges under the Pocso Act result in automatic criminalisation, as it acquitted a man who had a relationship with a minor when he himself was a minor. The court requested revisions in the age of consent, stating that consensual sex between persons aged 16 to 18 should be decriminalised. The court criticized the act for not considering normal sexual behavior among adolescents and for undermining their bodily integrity and dignity.
