Delhi court upholds release of devices of 'The Wire' editors

IndiaTimes Thursday, 19 October 2023
A Delhi court has dismissed the Delhi Police's plea to retain the electronic devices seized from editors of 'The Wire' during searches conducted last year. The court stated that the press is an important pillar of democracy and should be allowed to function independently. The court also mentioned that the continuous seizure of the devices is causing undue hardship to the editors and impinging on their fundamental rights of freedom of profession and expression. The devices will be released to the editors, but the investigation and trial will continue.
