Don't resort to hasty trial, give accused fair chance to defend himself: Supreme Court

IndiaTimes Wednesday, 25 October 2023
The Supreme Court has quashed a trial court order that awarded the death sentence to an accused in a rape and murder case of a three-month-old baby in Madhya Pradesh. The court found fault in the trial proceedings, stating that the accused was not given sufficient time to defend himself and was not allowed to cross-examine forensic experts. The court emphasized the importance of a fair trial and directed a fresh trial in the case.
