Will rewrite texts if 'Bharat' used: Kerala
Thursday, 26 October 2023
Kerala's education minister, V Sivankutty, has stated that the state government will publish separate textbooks if the proposal to replace 'India' with 'Bharat' in some NCERT school textbooks is imposed on them. The minister accused the recommendation of being an attempt to "saffronise" education and alter India's history. The proposal, made by an advisory committee, is based on the fact that the subcontinent was referred to as Bharat before the British rule. Kerala has rejected the recommendation and will stand against any attempts to enforce it.
