Karnataka politics: Caste report may be new battle in Siddaramaiah vs DK Shivakumar tussle

IndiaTimes Saturday, 4 November 2023
Cracks are appearing within the Congress party in Karnataka over accepting the Kantharaj Commission's report on the socio-economic survey. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah supports accepting the report, but Deputy CM Shivakumar is against it. The Lingayat community is also opposing the report, claiming it underestimates their population. This dissent within the party could impact the reservation quotas for these communities, as well as cause difficulties for the Congress party in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
