There has to be workable trust between government and judiciary, says SC

IndiaTimes Tuesday, 7 November 2023
The Supreme Court in India expressed concern over the government's selective approach towards appointing judges, stating that it is troubling the judiciary and affecting the seniority of judges. The court emphasized the need for a "workable trust" between the judiciary and the government for smooth functioning. It also urged the government not to reject lawyers with political connections and not to block appointments based on disagreements with the collegium's recommendations. Senior advocates requested the court to take action against the delay in appointments, which they believe undermines the independence of the judiciary.
