UP to get Gujarat's Gir cows via Brazil

IndiaTimes Wednesday, 8 November 2023
Ananda Dairy, a company based in Uttar Pradesh, India, has signed an MoU with Brazil's BH Embrioes to obtain the embryos of the Gir cow. The Gir cow, originally from Gujarat, India, was imported to Brazil over 150 years ago and crossed with Holstein cows, resulting in the Girolando breed that is known for its high milk production. Ananda Dairy aims to introduce the Brazilian Gir breed to farmers in Uttar Pradesh to increase milk production. The project will involve picking up oocytes from Brazilian Girlando cows, transferring the embryos to Indian receptors, and setting up labs in India for embryo production.
