MP village postpones Diwali to vote with 'calm head'

IndiaTimes Sunday, 12 November 2023
A village in Madhya Pradesh, India has decided to postpone their Diwali festivities by 10 days in order to allow villagers to vote with a clear head. The tribal community's Diwali is traditionally scheduled by village elders according to the 'tithi', and this year it coincides with the voting day. The village panchayat has rescheduled Diwali to November 24, a week after the rest of the country celebrates the festival. The villagers want to ensure that the celebrations do not affect the voting process and are encouraging everyone to think clearly and vote properly.
