Race on to save 40 trapped in Char Dham tunnel collapse
Rescue operations are underway to evacuate 40 workers who are trapped in an under-construction tunnel on the Char Dham all-weather highway project in Uttarkashi district. Multiple national and state agencies, including the NDRF, SDRF, ITBP, and BRO, are involved in the operation. It may take another day before the workers can be reached due to loose debris hampering the rescue efforts. Oxygen and food packets are being provided to the workers, and contact has been established using walkie-talkies. The tunnel, once completed, will reduce the travel distance between Uttarkashi and Yamunotri by 26 km.
