CSE pitches for regulating ‘secret’ carbon market, flags need for transparency

IndiaTimes Monday, 20 November 2023
The Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) has raised concerns about the voluntary carbon offset markets, stating that they may be doing more harm than good. The CSE is calling for the regulation of such markets globally and the creation of an official carbon market. The investigation conducted by the CSE found flaws in the existing voluntary carbon market in India, including the lack of awareness among stakeholders and the absence of rights for communities involved in generating carbon credits. The CSE emphasized the need for accountability and standardization in these markets.
