SC flags issue of 'pick and choose' by Centre in clearing names recommended by collegium for transfer of judges

IndiaTimes Monday, 20 November 2023
The Supreme Court expressed concern over the Centre's selective approach in clearing recommendations for transferring high court judges. The court noted that while five out of 11 recommended judges have been transferred, six are still pending, including four from the Gujarat High Court. The court emphasized that this "pick and choose" policy sends a negative signal and creates issues of seniority and reluctance among potential judges. The court also raised concerns about the delay in clearing names recommended for appointment and transfer by the collegium.
