AICTE set to lift cap on engineering seats, mid-level colleges wary
Sunday, 26 November 2023
The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) plans to remove the cap on seats for individual branches in top engineering colleges from 2024-25. This proposal aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) and aims to enhance the Gross Enrolment Ratio. The increase in seats will be subject to infrastructure availability and occupied faculty positions. Expert committees will inspect colleges before granting approval for an increase in intake. While top engineering colleges welcome the move, there are concerns that mid-tier colleges may struggle to provide quality education if admissions decline.
