2 dalits beaten up, urinated on in Tamil Nadu

Two dalit youths were beaten up and assaulted by a group of gounders at an isolated place near Vengamedu in Erode district. The victims, M Naveenkumar and Kirubakaran from Polavakalipalayam, were attacked with iron rods and their motorcycle was stolen. When they asked for water, the attackers urinated into their mouths and abused them based on their caste. The police have registered a case against 20 people under the Indian Penal Code and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 2015. The National Commission for Scheduled Castes is planning to visit the village, and a protest demanding the arrest of the gounders has been announced.
