Life at end of tunnel: India moves mountain to rescue 41 on Day 17

IndiaTimes Tuesday, 28 November 2023
The operation to rescue 41 workers trapped inside the Silkyara tunnel in Uttarkashi was successful. The multi-agency effort, supported by the PMO and NDRF personnel, lasted 17 days. The trapped workers were safely brought out, with the first worker, Vijay Horo, wheeled out on a stretcher. The workers were welcomed by CM Pushkar Singh Dhami and Union minister Gen VK Singh. Challenges included a minor earthquake causing debris shift, a loud cracking sound halting work, and the possibility of tunnel face collapse. The workers were found fit after a physical examination.
