Silkyara has 2 corridors, doesn't need escape passage: Officials

IndiaTimes Thursday, 30 November 2023
Officials clarify that the under construction Silkyara tunnel in Uttarkashi doesn't require a separate escape tunnel as it is divided into two inter-connected corridors by a partition wall. The divider wall has egress openings every 300 meters, serving as an escape tunnel in case of emergencies. The project's detailed report initially proposed an enclosed exit access within the tunnel for emergency escape, but it was later deemed unnecessary. The Silkyara tunnel project will be revived after conducting an audit and repairing the damaged portions caused by collapses.
