Government lifts ban on use of sugarcane juice to produce ethanol

IndiaTimes Friday, 15 December 2023
The government allowed the use of both sugarcane juice and B-heavy molasses to produce ethanol, capping the diversion of sugar at 17 lakh tonnes. This decision comes after the recent ban on cane juice for ethanol production. Sugar mills and oil marketing companies will decide the share. The sugar industry had raised concerns as many distilleries were sugarcane-based. The government will review the situation in a month or two.
