Animal sacrifice ban at temple triggers political slugfest in Bihar

IndiaTimes Monday, 18 December 2023
The Bihar State Religious Trust Board (BSRTB) has banned the animal sacrifice ritual at an old Shyama Mai temple in Darbhanga dedicated to Goddess Kali, leading to controversy and clashes between rival Hindu groups. BJP leader Giriraj Singh questioned the ban and criticized the double standards of animal lovers. The temple, located on the cremation site of Maharaja Rameshwar Singh, draws many devotees. The ban on animal sacrifice was implemented following complaints, with the temple authorities stating that they are obligated to follow the BSRTB's order to prevent cruelty to animals.
