Visakhapatnam residents got tap water on this day, 120 years ago!

Residents of Visakhapatnam received their first protected piped water supply on December 18, 1901. Previously, they relied on wells for drinking water. The municipal authorities improved existing wells and dug new ones to meet the growing population's needs. The scheme to supply protected water was sanctioned in 1896-97, with the construction of a reservoir at Mudasarlova. The project was completed on May 21, 1903, and eventually included Waltair and Dondaparthy areas. Tap connections were provided to institutions like hospitals and the jail.
