Bhagavadgita and Indian greats in Haryana school books

IndiaTimes Monday, 18 December 2023
Haryana's government schools in India will now include mandatory reading of the Bhagavadgita, Chhatrapati Shivaji, Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, A P J Abdul Kalam, Buddha, Eklavya, and Sarojini Naidu as part of their value education curriculum. Previously optional, students must now read a revised text to be able to answer 10-mark questions. The state government formed a committee to rework value education, which decided to include verses from the Bhagavadgita for their inspirational value in building moral character. The book for classes IX-X will also include stories of Shivaji, Buddha, Ekalavya, Sister Nivedita, and Maitreyi.
