The Gujarat high court has upheld the dismissal of Nilesh Chauhan, a judicial officer who went on unauthorized leave. Chauhan had informed his superiors that he would not return until a dispute with the local bar association was resolved. The court stated that his unauthorized absence was not appropriate for a judicial officer. Chauhan had written a letter expressing his opposition to a bar association strike and was subsequently charged with using intemperate language and making baseless allegations. After an inquiry, he was found guilty and subsequently suspended and dismissed.
