Solicitor general's advice to govt exempt from RTI: HC

IndiaTimes Monday, 25 December 2023
Delhi high court held that the legal advice given by the solicitor general of India to the government is exempt from disclosure under Section 8(1)(e) of the RTI Act. The court observed that the solicitor general is duty bound to work for the benefit of the central government in good faith. The court set aside an order by the CIC, which directed the ministry of law and justice to provide a copy of the note/opinion given by the solicitor general to the department of telecommunications. The court stated that there was no public interest in disclosing the information.
