'Stop weaponising technology': Congress slams government over Aadhaar-based system in MGNREGA payments
The Congress criticized the Modi government for making an Aadhaar-based system mandatory for MGNREGA payments, accusing it of using technology to exclude vulnerable Indians from social welfare benefits. The deadline to mandate the payments through the Aadhaar-Based Payment System (ABPS) ended on December 31, 2023. However, a significant number of registered workers were wrongfully deleted from the system due to the rush to implement Aadhaar authentication and ABPS. The Congress demanded the government to stop weaponizing technology, release delayed wage payments, and improve transparency.
