The Indian Penal Code (IPC) of 1860, The Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) of 1973, and the Indian Evidence Act of 1872 were replaced by three groundbreaking bills in 2023. These transformative legislations, namely Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS 2023), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS 2023), and Bharatiya Sakshya Bill (BSB 2023), aimed to revamp the criminal justice system. The bills were referred to a parliamentary standing committee for review and eventually received Presidential assent. The specific date of enforcement is yet to be determined.
