No place for compassion and sympathy in rule of law: SC

IndiaTimes Monday, 8 January 2024
Rejecting the emotional plea of the 11 convicts that their liberty be not taken away, the Supreme Court on Monday said compassion and sympathy have no place in rule of law, which the court is bound to establish and directed them to go back to jail within two weeks. It said liberty and all other fundamental rights would prevail only when rule of law was enforced and turned down the convicts' plea. The bench said deprivation of the convicts' liberty was justified in as much as they were set at liberty erroneously and contrary to law.
