Pune university professor, five students held for Ramleela ‘parody’

A professor and five students from Savitribai Phule Pune University were apprehended on allegations of offending religious sentiments due to a theatrical experiment centered around the lives of actors engaged in Ramleela performances. Following a confrontation with members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on Friday evening, leading to the disruption of the play, the arrested professor and students were also charged with rioting. However, a Pune court granted them bail on Saturday evening.
