Shooter MLA from Maharashtra booked under SC/ST Act for alleged use of caste slurs

While the opposition intensified its criticism of what it characterizes as a "gang war" within the BJP-Sena alliance, BJP MLA Ganpat Gaikwad, arrested for shooting at Kalyan Shiv Sena chief Mahesh Gaikwad, now faces charges under the SC/ST Atrocities Act for allegedly using caste slurs prior to the altercation. The clash between the MLA and a Sena activist from the Shinde camp was sparked by a land dispute. According to police sources, Madhumati Jadhav, who lodged the complaint on Saturday, had been in a long-standing rivalry with Ganpat over ownership of a 5-acre plot in Dwarli village in Kalyan.
