Feroze Gandhi to Rahul Gandhi: Rae Bareli's tryst with Congress

IndiaTimes Friday, 3 May 2024
Indira Gandhi contested from two seats in 1980 -- Rae Bareli and Medak in Telangana -- and chose to retain the Medak seat. Arun Nehru won the 1980 bypoll and subsequently in 1984. From Arun Nehru, who was late prime minister Rajiv Gandhi's right-hand man, to Sheila Kaul, another Gandhi kin, Rae Bareli returned several of the Gandhi family members and aides to the Lok Sabha. The seat was held by Congress' R P Singh in the 1960 bypoll after the demise of Feroze Gandhi, and by another Congress leader Baij Nath Kureel in 1962.

LS Elections 2024: Amritpal Singh Wins From Khadoor Sahib, Lawyer Demands His Release

In Dibrugarh, Assam, the lawyer representing Amritpal Singh, the imprisoned leader of 'Waris Punjab De' and elected Member of Parliament from Khadoor Sahib Lok Sabha constituency, Rajdev Singh Khalsa, outlines their legal strategy, which primarily focuses on securing bail for Singh. Khalsa asserts that the government has no choice but to release Singh, emphasising his client's efforts in combating drug abuse in Punjab. He contends that Singh's arrest was deemed unlawful and unethical by the public, highlighting widespread support for his cause. Jailed Khalistani separatist Amritpal Singh won from Punjab’s Khadoor Sahib Lok Sabha seat on Tuesday against Congress’ Kulbir Singh Zira by over 1.5 lakh votes, as per the Election Commission. Singh fought as an Independent candidate. Singh is ‘Waris Punjab De’ chief and is currently lodged in Dibrugarh jail in Assam under the National Security Act (NSA). Rahul Gandhi's First Reaction on Exit Polls 2024 Goes Viral | Moose Wala's '295' [Video]

Rahul Gandhi's First Reaction on Exit Polls 2024 Goes Viral | Moose Wala's '295'

Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Sunday dismissed exit poll predictions, which projected a landslide victory for the BJP-NDA. He did so while making a reference to late Punjabi singer and rapper Sidhu Moosewala's song '295'. Following a party meeting, Rahul Gandhi was asked by reporters about the exit poll projections and how many seats he thinks the INDIA alliance would secure. "Sidhu Moose Wala ka song suna hai aapne? (Have you heard the song by Sidhu Moosewala?). 295," he said. The former Congress President, who is contesting both Wayanad and Raebareli in the Lok Sabha elections 2024, further termed the exit poll forecasts "Modi-media poll". "This is not an exit poll. This is a Modi-media poll," he told reporters. Most exit polls have forecast 136 seats for the INDIA bloc, and 379 for the BJP-headed NDA. The predictions also said that the saffron side is likely to make significant inroads in the South and cause massive upsets in Bengal and Odisha. Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh also rubbished the exit poll predictions, calling them "fake" and saying the INDIA alliance is not going below the 295-mark #ExitPoll2024 #JairamRamesh #RahulGandhi #INDIAAlliance #AmitShah #ExitPoll2024live #ExitPolls2024 #ExitPollResults2024 #ExitPollLive #ExitPollResultsLive #LokSabhaElection2024 #LokSabha2024 #LokSabhaResultLive #LoksabhaExitPoll2024Live #BJP #BJPvsCongress #Congress #NarendraModi #RahulGandhi #LatestNews #BreakingNews #LiveNews #Elections2024 ~HT.99~PR.152~ED.102~
