Why much of Chennai doesn’t take a metro ride

Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) projected 1.2 million daily riders by 2026, but current numbers are less than one-third. Experts cite inadequate coaches, insufficient last-mile connectivity, high last-mile fares, and competition from suburban trains and buses as reasons for low ridership. CMRL is pinning hopes on Phase II expansion to boost numbers.
