Maharashtra inquiry finds 4 lakh bogus applicants for crop insurance scheme, Rs 350cr loss averted

A state inquiry identified 4 lakh bogus applicants among 2.4 crore applicants for Maharashtra’s Rs 1 crop insurance scheme for the Kharif 2024 season. Irregularities were traced to 96 Common Service Centres manipulating applications. No money was lost or transferred. Actions are being taken to enhance future transparency.
