'Won trust with marriage promise': Australian PIO held for duping Pune woman of Rs 3.6cr; may have conned many
Thursday, 26 June 2025 Pune police have arrested Abhishek Shukla, an Indian-origin Australian citizen, for allegedly defrauding a woman of Rs 3.6 crore under the guise of marriage. Shukla, posing as 'Dr. Ronit Oberoi' on a fake matrimonial site, gained the woman's trust before swindling her with a bogus business proposal.
The Drowning Prevention Awareness campaign, launched on World Drowning Prevention Day (25 July), is a heartfelt initiative by the Hemant Bala Advaitha (HBA) Foundation. Sparked by the tragic loss of 18-year-old music prodigy Advaitha Verma—who drowned in Pawna Lake in India's Pune, in June 2024—his parents Sudesh Verma and Renu Kaul Verma turned their grief into purpose. This Drowning Prevention Awareness campaign aims to educate, inform and prevent such avoidable tragedies nationwide. Backed by the WHO and inspired by the UN resolution of 2021, the Drowning Prevention Awareness movement highlights the urgent need for safety, education and community action.
