Rama Duwaji—artist, activist, and wife of NYC Democratic mayoral nominee Zohran Mamdani—has stepped into the spotlight after months of silence. The 27-year-old Syrian-American illustrator, known for her pro-Palestinian work, had avoided campaign publicity, sparking controversy and speculation. But on June 24, as Mamdani celebrated his win, she stood beside him—silent, composed, present. Born in Texas, raised partly in Dubai, Duwaji's work explores Gaza, race, identity, and dissent. Her pieces have supported Palestinian students and questioned U.S. policies.
