Assam's Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, asserted that approximately 10 lakh acres in Assam are encroached upon by "illegal Bangladeshis and doubtful citizens." Despite facing international pressure to halt eviction operations, particularly after the 2021 Darrang district drive, the government remains resolute. Sarma highlighted the Gorukhuti operation's success, where 25,000 acres were cleared, and pledged to reclaim all encroached land.
