No names from HC collegiums for 52% of vacancies: Government

IndiaTimes Thursday, 24 July 2025 ()
Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal informed the Rajya Sabha that High Court collegiums have not recommended candidates for 193 out of 371 vacant judge positions, representing over 52% of the total vacancies. This revelation came in response to Mallikarjun Kharge's inquiry regarding pending Supreme Court collegium recommendations for High Court judge appointments. The query was prompted by recent Supreme Court observations on the government's need to expedite clearances.
