Ariane 5 rocket blasts off amid Europe rocket crisis

The Ariane 5 rocket completed its 117th and final flight with a French military and a German communications satellite as its final payload. The rocket has been a reliable partner for Europe's space exploration for almost three decades. The continent is now without a means of independently launching heavy space missions after delays to the next-generation Ariane 6.
