The Chinese company has bid to construct a plant in Saudi Arabia's Eastern Province, near the Qatar and UAE borders. Saudi Arabia has previously sought U.S. cooperation for a civilian nuclear program, but is now exploring the Chinese option as a way to pressure the Biden administration. However, Saudi officials have stated a preference for involving South Korean state utility Korea Electric Power in the project.
