New airport sparks unlikely dreams in isolated north Cyprus
Monday, 28 August 2023 The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus has opened a new half-billion-dollar airport terminal in an attempt to boost tourism. The TRNC, which is only recognized by Turkey, hopes that the new terminal will allow for international connections. However, the International Civil Aviation Organization does not recognize the TRNC, and the Republic of Cyprus Department of Civil Aviation states that the new terminal is not recognized by the international aviation community. The TRNC relies on tourism for crucial income and hopes to establish direct international flights from major cities such as Frankfurt, Paris, and London.
