Tropical storm Lee forms in Atlantic, forecast to become major hurricane heading to the Caribbean
Wednesday, 6 September 2023 Tropical Storm Lee has formed in the Atlantic Ocean and is expected to become a major hurricane as it approaches the Caribbean by the weekend. Currently located east of the Lesser Antilles, the storm is forecast to strengthen and pass just northeast of the Caribbean region. The National Hurricane Center has warned that it is too early to determine the exact impact on the Leeward Islands.
Tropical storm Lee is "expected to rapidly intensify into an extremely dangerous hurricane by the weekend," the National Hurricane Center says. Its wind speeds picked up on Tuesday afternoon and are now 45 mph with higher gusts. Veuer’s Maria Mercedes Galuppo has the story.
