IndiaTimes Tuesday, 12 September 2023
Maria Ressa, the Philippine Nobel laureate and veteran journalist, has been acquitted of her final tax evasion charge. This is seen as a legal victory for Ressa, who has been fighting multiple charges filed during former president Rodrigo Duterte's administration. Ressa, a vocal critic of Duterte and his drug war, has maintained that the charges against her and her news website, Rappler, were politically motivated.
