A Chinese citizen who worked for a defense institute has been accused of spying for the United States, according to China's top spy agency. The case has been transferred to a court in Chengdu for trial. The accused, surnamed Hou, was sent to a US university as a visiting scholar in 2013, where he was coerced into revealing Chinese state secrets. The case highlights China's commitment to national security and its crackdown on domestic corruption. China has been increasingly focused on counter-espionage efforts in recent years, arresting and detaining individuals on suspicion of espionage.
